Acorn Valley Blog Tour
Patty Young has put together a new fabric line for Riley Blake and I was so excited when I was asked to join in to celebrate the line with a tour. The Acorn Valley line is a perfect match for my love of fall! I can’t believe I was given the opportunity to sew something up for each of my girls. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Be sure to read to the bottom, because Patty is giving away some Acorn Valley Flannels to one of our readers so that you can make some beautiful creations too.
I was provided with a Modkid pattern of my choice to use to help show off these fabrics. I chose the Lexi Dress, which I made as a peplum top and paired it with the Perfect Leggings cut at the capri length. For this set I used the Acorn Valley Bloom Dot Teal for the Lexi Top and Leafy Chevron Citron. Buying knits can sometimes be hard, but I always know when I order Riley Blake Knits I will be happy. These fabrics are a soft with great weight and great recovery. They are easy to work with and leave you wishing you had more.
I must admit, this might be the best bound neckline of my entire sewing life. What do you think? I actually cut the binding on the bias so I wouldn’t have to worry about fussy cutting the print. I’m so glad I did, I love how it turned out. This was probably my favorite make of the three. I love the circle back and the peplum looks great with the leggings.
After the Lexi top, I wanted to mix up my next make with something different. For this I used the Laguna Summer Tops Collection. I have used this pattern A LOT this summer, so I knew it would be a good choice. For this set I used View A (There are 4 Views total.) with the double flutter sleeve and the perfect leggings again. I’ve made this version more than any other. It is pretty quick and my girls really like the style. The fabric for this top is Acorn Valley Main Green and Flutter Red, I also squeezed in Bloom Dot Red for the neck binding because I had a little available from the other set and thought it would be fun. I just love the foxes in the Main Green fabric and so did my girls. I thought there was a chance of WWIII when they all declared the foxes were theirs. I’m going to have to get some more. As it was, I’ve been having trouble bribing my oldest for photos lately, so I dubbed her the winner of our internal war. It was a good choice as she cooperated quite well when it came to photo time.
I had to give a close up of the flutter fabric on the leggings because I just thought it was looking so great. Most people probably weren’t thinking to pair the flutters with the foxes, but I really like how it turned out.
For my third outfit I used the Laguna Top again, but with View C. This was my first attempt at View C. Admittedly, I merely skimmed the directions and went to sewing this up. Why would I need to read them when I’ve made so many of all the other versions? Oops, I totally missed the fact that the sleeves needed to be gathered and ran in to a bit of a roadblock. You know when you serge on and topstitch a steller neck binding and then have to rip it all out… That was me. Insert crying face emoji times three!! Totally my fault!
I was able to salvage my neck binding (after a lot of stitch removal) and ended up with a great top. For this set I used Acorn Valley Flutter Multi and paired it with the Bloom Dot Red for the bottoms. I love how all of these fabrics look great together but create different looks simply by pairing certain fabrics together.
In case you are wondering how easy it is to get two 3 year olds and a 7 year old to take a quality photo together, you have a better chance of winning the Powerball. The struggle is real!
There was a deer on the creek bed below the bridge that was stealing all the attention. Even Daddy got distracted by it. 🙂
Well, this is the end of my stop on the tour. I really hope you enjoyed checking out my creations with the new Riley Blake Acorn Valley line by Patty Young. I just know we are going to be seeing these fabrics everywhere. No one can turn down those adorable little foxes! Don’t forget to check the rest of the schedule and the giveaway below.
