Laela Jeyne Emily T-Shirt Got a Face Lift
I’m running a little behind on sharing this post, but I’ve finally photographed my most recent creation for myself. It’s been a crazy few weeks with back-to-school in full swing. I was able to take a little time to decompress at my machines with this quick sew. One of my favorite t-shirt patterns just got a face lift and I had to stitch it up and see what the new changes to the pattern were. It wasn’t just a face-lift… this was an all out re-model of the pattern.

The Emily Pattern from Laela Jeyne Patterns is one that I have sewn up a few times before. It is a fitted tee pattern that has quite a few options. The new version offers three views: a T-shirt, a Mini-Dress, and a Peplum. Each version can have either a scoop neck or a v-neck. I also really liked the jewel (crew) neck from the original version, so I plan to keep that around. There are also three sleeve length options. The best part about this update is that it now includes cup sizes! No FBAs needed, the work is already done for you. I’ll be honest, I always struggle selecting my size with these types of patterns so I pulled my friend card and messaged Marisa before I printed to be sure I selected the correct size. Sure enough, I had it right. Woot! I printed and cut one night, and then sewed another. It made the construction process seem so fast.
When I saw Marisa post her striped peplum version, I new I was going to need to add a few of those to my closet. I love how a knit peplum can be dressed up for work with some slacks or easily dressed down with jeans for a casual look. To be honest, this view is a great way to get a top that is fitted where things look nice, while covering where things could probably be tightened a bit. It’s a very forgiving view. The only modifications I made for this version was to shorten the bodice by one inch at the lengthen/shorten line provided on the pattern pieces. I’m 5’2.5″ on a good day and LJ patterns are drafted for 5’5″ women. I don’t always shorten my tops, but I really wanted to be sure this one didn’t fall too long when it was finished. It was a perfect adjustment for me.
I stitched up this floral version first in a double brushed poly which I know for certain came from an online shop, which one I couldn’t say. It could be Love Adore Knits, Sincerely Riley, or some other random place where they send you a box of random surprise stuff. I’m pretty sure this was from a mystery box. I’m normally a floral girl, but I’m not sure I would have selected this particular print on my own. However, I think it turned out nicely. I also stitched up a navy and white striped version from some knit I think I snagged at my local Walmart a few years back. I’m trying to sew my stash and I’m getting through it slowly. I actually wore my navy and white one before it was photographed, so maybe I’ll get some photos of it later… probably not.
Overall, I’ll be keeping this pattern in circulation. It’s a quick sew, and I know I will get some good use out of it. Plus, you can never have too many tee patterns! I need to make a basic tee or two soon. Maybe I’ll tackle a few v-necks to shake things up a bit.
Thanks to my 9 year old for being my photographer for this quick shoot. She did an awesome job, especially with my auto focus not working these days.
