Love Notions Origami Tour
*This post contains some affiliate links, but please know all opinions are my own. I just gotta find ways to fund my fabric habits. 🙂
For this tour, there weren’t strict guidelines. I just needed to sew up and show off a creation from the Origami Tunic Pattern. I was trying to keep it simple and opted to sew one up for my biggest girl. She hasn’t been receiving too many makes lately and could use some fall additions to her wardrobe, so that was my goal. I fear I struggle to nail down her personal style with my sewing attempts these days, so it’s a total crap shoot at this stage in the game on whether what I make will be worn or not. I did recently whip up some pretty awesome How To Train Your Dragon pajamas with some custom knit I had been hoarding and those were a complete hit.
The Origami Tunic offers 4 sleeve options and 3 necklines for the Girl’s Pattern. The Women’s Pattern offers a few different options, one which includes a cardigan version, which I think is fantastic. I stitched up this pattern using the 3/4 length sleeve and the banded neckline. I always cute my stripe neckbands on the bias to make life easy. No need to worry about the fussy cutting. Try it sometime, it may change your life. The only change I made to this pattern was not to use the hem facing. It’s a great option for getting a nice and clean finish, but I wasn’t sure how to handle a facing on something that has 4 right angles with my cover stitch machine. If you have any tips on that, feel free to help me out in the comments!! I’d love to know what to do. For my version, I hemmed the sides up a half inch, then hemmed up the front and back after.
I was very please with the final product with this pattern. This Art Gallery Wild and Free fabric has perfect colors for fall and my model was eager to do our photo session. I always think her attitude in photo shoots gives me an idea of whether or not something will be worn, and I’m feeling like we are going to get some wear out of this make.
Also, I’m going to toot my horn and direct your attention to the side seam below. I almost didn’t use this fabric because I was nervous about using the stripes with the handkerchief hemline. It turns out I did a pretty killer job with these stripes. #winning Don’t you love little successes like stripe matching?
So, what do you think? How do you feel about handkerchief hemlines? Do you like them? Have you tried them? I love that they can take a simple make and spice it up and give a new look. Would you make your version with the banded neck, or try the cowl option? I hope you enjoyed stopping by and that you got a little bit of inspiration while here.
