One Thimble Issue 10: Claudia Dress
The One Thimble Issue 10 is now available for purchase and download! For those of you who don’t know, One Thimble is a digital sewing magazine (ezine). It is always packed full of patterns and tips to help develop your sewing toolbox. Today I’m featuring the Claudia Dress by Bugaboo Basics Designs and the Enid Slouch Beanie from from Rosie Petal as part of the release blog tour.
When I saw this pattern I immediately was reminded of a pin I keep coming across (and re-pinning often) of a great little dress with adorable photo styling. I wanted to create a Claudia inspired by this dress. The dress comes from Duchess and Lion Clothing , and they are allowing me to share the photo with you today so you can see my inspiration. How adorable?!
For my Claudia, I started with a Chambray fabric. I didn’t want to go too copy cat, so I opted not to go with the gingham. I modified the sleeves of the Claudia slightly by shortening and tapering them rather than gathering per pattern directions. I also shortened the bodice and skirt lengths slightly to create a look more similar to the inspiration dress. The Claudia Dress Pattern features size range 2-10, front button placket, and gathered sleeves (long and short).
This dress come together very quickly. I was slightly nervous about doing a button down dress, but my button holer decided to place nice and they turned out great. Honestly, I never know what is going to happen with my machine with button holes. It is completely hit or miss on whether it will cooperate. But, don’t they look nice today?
This dress is definitely one I can make again. The simplicity was such a nice surprise. I stitched the dress up in one evening. I’m thinking I may want to try a create a version that can be worn as a coat as well.
I also stitched up the Enid Slouch Beanie to go with this dress. I thought it went with the styling from the inspiration photo, so why not go ahead and make one. I up-cycled an old sweater that no longer fit me because sweater knit would be a fun version of this hat and I hadn’t seen anyone else stitch one up yet. Oh my goodness! This hat is so fast to stitch up! Seriously… The quickest project I’ve ever sewn up. The Enid Slouch Beanie Pattern features sizes 12 months – adult, optional button tab, and metric and imperial measurements. It turned out wonderfully.
So what do you think? Does it look like a dress inspired by the Duchess and Lion Dress? We are happy with the final result and can’t wait for spring to get here so it can be worn without freezing our butts off. Now, be sure to check out all the other stops along the tour! So many great creations, photos, and fun. Don’t forget to enter the giveaway too! I actually won a blog giveaway once, and that is pretty awesome. You can’t win if you aren’t in the race.
