Make Laundry, Don't Do Laundry Pre-Show 3

It’s Wednesday, and day 3 of the Make Laundry Don’t Do Laundry Pre-Show where we are featuring some patterns from designers that are sponsoring the tour next week!  Be sure to check out Day 1, and Day 2 if you missed them. 🙂

Today I’m featuring some quick sews from Modkid.  Modkid recently release the Laguna Summer Shirts Collection and the Perfect Leggings patterns, so I thought I would show those off.  I tested both of these, but decided to sew up different options because both of these patterns have quite a lot to choose from.  Check out my first post about them here.

The Laguna Shirts Collection has 4 Different Views.  The options are fun yet still simple. If you haven’t sewn a Modkid pattern before, they have a way of making things seem less complicated.  It is like they have basic pieces that come together with style in the end. Totally worth trying.  For today, I did View A with the single layer sleeve option.  I wanted to keep it simple so we can mix and match with some of our other clothes.

If you love the Laguna Summer Tops Collection, Modkid is also hosting a sewalong next week! That means you can enter a Laguna top for the sewalong prizes and for the Laundry tour! Boom, two for one!  Get all the details for the sew along here .  Coupon code LAGUNASAL2016 gets you 25% off your entire order in the Modkid Etsy store. That’s ANYTHING you buy in the shop not just the Laguna pattern!! The coupon code expires on Wednesday, June 8th at midnight EST. Don’t miss it!

For the Perfect Leggings I used the simple shorts, again to make them flexible with our other items, but this patterns has so much more to offer.  Rouched sides with a faux button placket and Mini-Ruffles at the hemline are two other options available.  This pattern also features no outer side seam.  I know this is a huge plus for some of us.

The shorts are a great length! Not too long and not too short, just right. I am definitely going to try the faux placket next.  Will you try out a Modkid pattern for the link up?  Be sure to check out all the patterns Patty Young offers in the shop!

I hope you liked my little feature, but don’t forget that Karly and Jeanine also have designer features today too!  Check out Karly’s adorable shorts with some great fabric here.  Check out Jeanine’s post here.

Little Lizard King Marlowe Release

Little Lizard King Marlowe Release

LLK2

I was definitely pumped to get the invite to join in on the most recent pattern test for Little Lizard King! I feel like there are small goals I’ve set for myself in my sewing adventures and testing for these ladies is definitely one of them.  Everyone is so friendly and supportive, it is great! I love to be involved with groups like this.  I was, however, super nervous about being able to keep up with the awesomeness of LLK testers.  They create and photograph seriously wicked awesomeness.

LLK1

Enough of that…. Let’s talk about the Marlowe Top and Dress.  It features a boho inspired bodice with optional flutter sleeves.  Choose from a simple skirt (top or dress length) or the boho hem skirt for the dress length.  This does not have any closures as the design of the crossover back bodice allows for easy on and off.  I have to say, I was super nervous about that “V” shaped bodice coming out nice and pointy and I didn’t have any issues with it at all!

LLK6

I used an ivory swiss dot for the bodice.  Don’t you just love dotted swiss?! It just takes a design to a new level.  I love creations even more when they are made with dotted swiss.  I made Marlowe as a dress with the simple skirt hemline that falls just above the knee. The floral fabric was one that I have been hoarding for a while and I just love how it paired up with the ivory fabric in the bodice.

Marlowe Scoop:

  • New release price of $6.99
  • 12 Months – Girls Size 12
  • Tunic and Dress Lengths
  • Simple Hemline (Tunic and Dress)
  • Boho Hemline (Dress)
  • NO CLOSURES!!!
  • Layered Printing
  • Great for adding bodice trims!
  • Super quick sew

I think that should be everything you need to know to check this out.  If you are new to my blog, thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the view.  Be sure to follow me here by joining to receive emails when I post something new (over on the right hand side) and on Instagram here.

Made For Mermaids Top Tester

Made For Mermaids Top Tester

MollyFinal

Last weekend Made for Mermaids announced they were hosting a #toptester contest where the winners of the contest would be guaranteed spots in up and coming tests of new patterns.  I’ve been a great stalker of the Made for Mermaids group, but don’t post things in there too often.  I thought this contest would be a great way to jump in on some fun and be a little more active. *This post does contain affiliate links.  If you decide you need to purchase from a link in this post you will be helping to support my fabric hoarding without any extra cost to yourself.

For the contest I chose to stitch up the Molly Pattern as a Tunic.  Testers get bonus points for pairing bottoms from the designer’s patterns, so I also made the Evie pleated shorts to pair with the tunic.  My goal for this style was something vintage length with the bottoms just peeking out below the tunic.  For the contest I proof read a pattern given to the contestants to check our editing skills, then I shared fit pictures to demonstrate how a pattern would be looked at for fit during the testing process, and finally shared finished photos of the piece.  I enjoy testing for a number of reasons.  Here is my quick list: I get to learn new skills, I get to meet other sewists, I am motivated to finish projects because there is a deadline, I get to escape the daily struggles I face at work.

Here is the Molly Scoop:

Girls 6 Months- 14 Years and Baby Sizes  0- 24 Months

The Evie Pleated Shorts and Pants Scoop:

  • Shorts and pant options
  • With or Without Suspender option

  • No-trim pattern pieces
  • Layered pattern pieces, print only the size you need
  • Clear photo directions, especially with constructing the pleats
  • No button holes or zippers here either

Molly8

I sewed these up because I hadn’t made either before.  I’ve been doing some testing lately and sewing up a fresh pattern definitely helps keep the tester mindset.  The construction method on the straps for Molly was somewhat different than others I have used.  I think this method helped to prevent some of the troubles that arise when turning straps that have the extra bulk of a flutter.  Great idea on this one!  I do love how the flutters on this top still help to conceal some back skin and keep us looking classy and not trashy.  This is a motto we use in our house when applying lip gloss.  I think it applies well here too. 🙂

Molly10

The Evie shorts came together perfectly.  The waistband matched up amazingly even with the pleats!  I guess that means I can follow directions.  When putting these shorts together I kept thinking I’ve got to try these without elastic in the legs on the shorts.  I think the could look very cute. I’m sure I’ll be making these again, especially in the fall for a great pant outfit.  Here is a sneak of the shorts since they are mostly covered by the tunic, I thought you may need to see them.

Be sure to check out all the #toptester entries at the Made for Mermaids Pattern Group. There are some amazing creations and great photography too! It’s amazing how some of these women have developed their skills in so many areas, they rock.
