Sew Americana 2018

Sew Americana 2018

Several years ago Katy at Wild + Wonderful started hosting an annual Sew Americana Tour.  I participated the first year and absolutely loved my creation.  I share it often when the day calls for a little patriotic nod.  You can find that post here.  Last

Simple Life Pattern Co. and Sew Caroline Tour {A Designer Collaboration}

Magnolia Shorts-18

Hey friends!  I’m joining in to  celebrate the kick off of a designer collaboration between Simple Life Pattern Co. and Sew Caroline.  I won’t bore you with all the collaboration details because if you have been following, you already know them.   I’m just going to show of my version of the Girls Magnolia Shorts.

Magnolia Shorts-16

The Magnolia shorts are almost a culotte style short.  They are an absolutely quick sew with just a single pattern piece per leg and a waistband.  Friends, it doesn’t get much easier than this. They are perfect for light weight wovens with nice drape as well as knits.  I definitely do not recommend quilters cotton for these.  They kinda get a little “poofy.” I’m using a lightweight polyester here that I snagged from Hobby Lobby last year in the summer seasonal section.  I think it worked very well. I did have a little trouble with the double quarter inch fold hem.  I’m a little OCD and the thin fabric was not cooperatiing with my commands.  There are also two waistband options, woven and knit.

Project Run and Play Week 3: Gone Boho

Project Run and Play Week 3: Gone Boho

Welcome back to Week 3 for Project Run and Play!  This week the theme was Boho Chic.  I did a lot of debating and changing up plans throughout this week before settling on these final looks.  I ended up with a plan that focused on

Lil Luxe Collection {Papillon Shorties}

Okay… So a while back I was on a short sewing spree and sewed up about 5 or 6 versions of the Papillon Shorties from the Lil Luxe Collection.  I hadn’t posted about it because I really just sewed them for fun because I was loving the pattern.  I thought I should go ahead and write up a little something because they are just too cute not to document.

If you don’t know this pattern, it features a scalloped flat front waistband with elastic back waistband.  Knife pleats and front pockets added to the scalloped front make this pair of shorts such a great make.  You can add trim to the scallops to spice up this make which is a fun feature that really makes the scallops pop.

I also used this pattern for my Art Gallery Blog tour.  You can read about that here.  Here is a little sneak for you.

Here are a few more of my makes from the pattern.

I’ve started some hacking of this pattern too. Here is the skirt version I stitched up using the waistband and a gathered skirt.  Super quick sew and LOVE that waistband.  My newest hack is going to be a wide leg pant version!  I’ve been dreaming about this hack and it will be coming soon.  I know it will be a perfect match for the Calabria Top.  That’s all for now.  If you are moving into warmer weather, you should probably check out this pattern.  It is a total keeper!!

It’s time for some summer fun! I just love the idea summer, and sun, and all things hot… and you should too! (You are a parent of small people if you just read that in an Olaf voice.) I love that I get to spend most of my summer off with the girls while we are out of school.  We spend time at the pool, splash park, the blow up pool in the back yard, and make an occasional trip to the ever-so-awesome Holiday World.  There is a lot of fun in the sun, so this tour was a great fit for us.  Thanks to Ula at Lulu & Celeste and Deb from Sprouting JubeJube for hosting the Pool Side Beach Party and letting me join in!  The tour has a great line-up of bloggers with a lot of diverse projects to share about.

Now, I’m not what I would call a swim suit maker, but have have made one once (last year), and it turned out decently for my first go around.  However, I didn’t tackle the task this year because I got some great deals on RTW suits and I had other projects in mind.  I needed a task for this project and Jess from Gracious Threads generously provided me with the Swim & Surf Short pattern for the tour.  How awesome?!  I’d been eyeing this pattern since its testing call, so I was super pumped to get the opportunity.  Gracious Threads also has a coupon code for during the tour, so check that out below.

I made these shorts by up-cycling swim trunks I bought at Walmart this season for $5!!  I was able to cut TWO size three shorts with extras left over.  I bought a second pair for the coordinating binding and to make my oldest a pair too.  I could definitely get 4 pairs of shorts out of the two I bought, so totally worth the money especially if you are impatient and don’t want to wait for shipping. Another perk to upcycling is getting a drawstring that can be reused too!  I cut the drawstring in the shorts down to size and stitched it back together at the center.  This gave me pretty finished ends on my drawstring which I love! It makes them look even more legit.

If you aren’t familiar with this pattern, there are options for making them with and without swim bottoms attached inside as well as options for two different lengths. The swim bottom option is great for my little one in these shorts because she has NO BUTT!  Basically, she wears a size three, but a 24 month swim bottom falls off because there is no meat in the back to hold them up. This is not an exaggeration, Crack Kills People!!!  These shorts are a great way for us to cover her bum while swimming.

Swim5

And, what’s a trip to the splash park without stopping for a water enema? Right?! Everyone’s gotta get one.

I confess, I didn’t make these suits, but I can’t leave anyone out.  Here are the other two running around in the water too.  We just love the summer!  I hope you’ve enjoyed a peek into what our summer days look like.  Now, be sure to check out the codes below and enter the rafflecopter for some great giveaways!
