Women's Boheme Sky: Tunic, Midi, and Dress
A little over a month ago I had the opportunity to test the Girls Boheme Sky Tunic, Midi, and Dress pattern for Striped Swallow Designs. I used the pattern to make a dress as part of Peyton’s Sew’NStyle Mini Collection. (Check that post here.) I loved the dress and was so excited when Mandalynn shared there was going to be a Women’s Boheme Sky pattern to follow. I am seriously going to be doing some Mommy and Me combinations. I always say that, but this time I seriously mean it.
As usual, I made several trips to my local JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby trying to find something that would make Striped Swallow Designs proud. Sadly, it is hard to find decent knits locally without trading in one or both kidneys. I ended up with a jersey knit with a floral burnout design. I had high hopes for it once I committed and I’m very happy with the final result.
Let’s Talk Burnouts:
In the heat of the fabric shopping moment, I headed to the cutting table thinking bolt of gray with floral burnout was going to be “the one.” This was going to be a great idea. I just knew I was going to have something that wasn’t on everyone else cutting table. The bodice is lined, so I had no worries about showing my “girls” to the public, and all was going to be right with the world. Once my Midi was finished and I put it on, I realized I had a minor issue of being able to see through the skirt’s burnout design. Now, I am an educated person. How did I miss that this would be an issue? Boo… I threw on some black leggings to hide my underwear and called it acceptable. I really needed a tank to cover my midsection, but my solution was much easier. I hiked my leggings up to my bra and pretended it was a built in body shaper. Classy, I know. Lesson learned, burnouts need to be lined EVERYWHERE if they are going to be worn as a dress. I won’t make that mistake again.
