Indigo & Aster by Bari J.
I was completely excited to find an email in my inbox from Audrey of Skirt Fixation inviting me to join a tour celebrating and showing off the latest fabric line from Bari J. for Art Gallery Fabrics, Indigo and Aster. I actually met Bari last year at the Violette Field Threads retreat. She taught a breakout embroidery session and was fabulous. Then this spring I participated in Project Run and Play and Bari was one of the celebrity judges. She didn’t pick me to win the week she judged, but these two connections make me feel like we are legit friends. I’m not sure if she knows yet. 🙂
I wanted to sew up a dress with a double circle skirt. I actually won two different patterns from my winnings of Project Run and Play that have double circle skirts. I ended up going with the Sonora from Lil Luxe Collection. My girls LOVE twirly dresses and I don’t know if it gets more twirly than a double circle skirt. This pattern offers a beautiful finished product, yet is a fairly simple sew.
Bari sent me two fabrics from the Indigo and Aster line to sew for the this tour. I was able to sew up the Animalia Exotica Oasis as the bodice of my dress and the used the La Florasian Lit for the skirt of my dress. I think the contrast of the two prints really sells this look.
Animal Exotica comes in two different color ways and is available in two substrates, cotton and knit. I think this print is a great contrast to the strong florals that also exist in the line. La Floraison comes in several color ways and in additional and additional substrate. The La Floraison includes cotton, knits, and rayon. I’m so pumped about Art Gallery offering Rayon as an option. It’s truly lovely.
If you follow me regularly you know I’m a floral addict. When I pulled this floral out of the mail envelope I was smitten. It’s so lovely and yet funky at the same time. It’s not to soft and airy like some of the florals I use. It has a bit more attitude.
You may notice my bias tape hem in this twirling photo. I love adding a pop of color on circle skirt hems. Did you know that sometimes 2 packs of bias tape won’t hem a double circle skirt?! I had to make a run to JoAnn’s this week for 6 inches of bias tape. Boo! But really, it was totally worth it.
