Lounge Library for Project Run and Play

Wow, it has been a long time! Over a year to be exact since I’ve set down to my computer to create a new post for my blog. I’ve missed it! I’ve missed sewing! I’m getting back on the horse to create and support the

Simple Life Pattern Company Holiday Blog Tour 2019

It’s another year to be sewing up holiday wear as we approach the season of giving, family, friends, and in my case, Jesus. I’m honored to be asked to join in on this annual tradition of the Simple Life Pattern Company tour yet again. It

Back to School with Project Run and Play

Wow, back to school has really knocked me on my booty the last two weeks. There is no tired like back to school tired. I always feel like here in Indiana we are starting back while everyone else is just getting into the prime of their summer.

Audrey invited me to join in on this back to school tour and I figured I could probably make it work with my schedule. It would motivate me to get some things sewn up. I had several issues and had to post a little late. Apologies for the late arrival!

I ended up selecting the L&J hoodie by Suco for this tour because I know how much my girls say they need an extra layer sometimes at school. Do you know that I’ve never sewn a zip-up sweatshirt?! It’s true. This is my first one. I’m a slacker!

There are several new patterns that have just released in time for back to school sewing, and a sale. The 4 new patterns are 20% off through 8/18 at midnight EST.  No code necessary, patterns are already discounted in the shop.

Here is a tip that I decided would be helpful. Put a little piece of stabilizer at the zipper edge before sewing on the zipper. I did this because my knit was somewhat thin and I didn’t want to have any stretching. It worked amazingly. Another tip would be not to trim your zipper with the pull on the end that you are trimming off… Not that I would know anything about that.

Be sure to check out all the posts from this Back to School Tour!!!

This week, 6 designers will share their awesome Back to School creations.

Summer is FINALLY here! It’s as though I had gone missing and finally found myself again. I have been sewing quite a bit, but haven’t posted as many creations as I’ve been making to the blog. I need to do quite a bit of catching up.

Raspberry Creek Fabrics Swim Tour

Raspberry Creek Fabrics Swim Tour

I’ve been quiet lately on the blogger front.  Our family has been pretty busy with life and that’s left me a little on the dry end of creative juices.  Today I’m coming back from winter hibernation to share swimwear… How funny is that?!

Chalk and Notch Fringe Dress

Chalk and Notch Fringe Dress

I don’t get to create too much for my oldest these days. When Gabriela of Chalk and Notch Patterns announced that she was going to put out a girls version of the Fringe dress, I thought it would be a great option for an “older” girl style. I could have been identified as a post stalker the way I was looking out for any updates regarding this pattern.

I chose a Chambray/Lightweight denim with fairly nice drape for this dress. I snagged it at JoAnn’s just for this dress. Since I went with a solid color, I decided to add a little change up and actually made the sleeve tabs using the reverse side of the fabric. You can see the color difference slightly in the photos. Honestly, I was hoping for a smidgen more of a contrast between the two colors.

Here are my overall thoughts about this pattern. I really enjoyed the beautiful clean look of the neckline and couldn’t believe how nice the inside of this dress looked when I was finished. The pattern directions help to create this great look. If you haven’t given Chalk and Notch Patterns a try, you really are missing out on quality work.

The overall design of this dress is meant to have quite a bit of ease. I blended sizes to be sure to get the desired look for my very petite string bean. I think the final look is showing the true goal of the design.

If I was to reflect on my personal creation, I’m noticing that I probably need to adjust that top button. It’s pulling a little and I hadn’t noticed that before. My second area of refinement would be to work on my button tab skills. Man, my machine did not like those tiny tabs when it can to button holes. I may have made a significant number of extra tabs in the creation of this dress. I also may have called my machine inappropriate names. Lastly, I probably need an intervention on hemming curved hemlines. I really feel like I struggled to make mine look as tidy as I would like. Feel free to leave me any tips you have on that skill in the comments; I’d be happy to take them.

I made this adorable light jacket a few weeks ago and shared it all around on social media, but never officially wrote up a post.   I used fabrics from Raspberry Creek Fabrics as part of their promotional team.  I used a Grey Lightweight Twill found
